Smart Power and Dew Protection Controller 4x for Effective Dew Prevention
Choose intelligent technology instead of pure heating power for dew protection. The Smart Power and Dew Control 4x extends battery runtime by optimizing energy consumption for up to four heating elements. The system analyzes environmental data in real time to ensure that your optics are heated only as much as necessary to prevent condensation.
The controller 4x provides four ports for simultaneous control of four heating elements. One port can be used to heat the telescope, while the remaining ports can power accessories such as a finder scope, guide scope, eyepiece, or another telescope.
Four 12V DC outputs allow powering various devices such as mount, focus motor, or camera. One output provides adjustable voltage from 3V to 12V and is especially suitable for low-power accessories such as DSLR cameras. In addition, three USB ports are available.
Compatibility with Dew Heating Systems
The controller is compatible with dew heater rings for 5", 6", 8", 9.25", 11", and 14" (depending on version). These rings feature an integrated thermistor that measures the temperature of Schmidt-Cassegrain, EdgeHD, or RASA optics.
Heating straps or bands from third-party manufacturers can also be used if they are equipped with a temperature probe.
Intelligent Microprocessor Control
At the core of the controller is a high-performance microprocessor that collects sensor data, performs calculations, and automatically adjusts heating output. An integrated ambient sensor monitors temperature and humidity, while connected temperature probes control the heating elements.
The Smart Power and Dew Control 4x can be used as a standalone accessory or in combination with your telescope control system or computer. For display and configuration, NexStar+ or StarSense hand controllers running the latest firmware, as well as the CPWI telescope control software, can be used.
High-Performance Energy Management
The controller is powered by a 12V DC power source, such as a PowerTank Pro LiFePO4 battery with 158.74 Wh. Maximum power consumption is 240 W (20 A at 12V DC).
All four 12V DC outputs enable centralized power supply of your entire setup from a single energy source. Additional ports can be used to power mount, focus motor, and camera. One output provides adjustable voltage from 3V to 12V, ideal for accessories requiring lower voltage.
The controller allows individual switching of each connected device via the hand controller or CPWI software without physically disconnecting them. Resettable electronic fuses protect the system against excessive current draw.
Note: When operating multiple heating elements under heavy dew conditions and powering the system via external 12V power supplies, the performance limit may be reached. For all-night operation, a higher-capacity battery or multiple batteries may be required.
Integrated USB 3.2 Hub for Easy Cable Management
The integrated USB 3.2 hub connects three USB devices to your computer using only one cable. The three USB Type-A ports are each powered and can be individually switched on or off via CPWI or a hand controller.
Rugged Industrial Design with Intelligent Status Display
The Smart Power and Dew Control 4x is housed in a durable metal enclosure. An integrated cooling fan protects the electronics from overheating.
The sensor and control unit on the top contains status LEDs and environmental sensors. This design improves cable management and ensures accurate measurements since temperature and humidity sensors are positioned away from heat-generating components.
Status LEDs indicate operating status and warn if power consumption exceeds the supply capacity or if battery level is low. LEDs can be dimmed for observations under very dark sky conditions.
The controller is mounted using integrated dovetail clamps for CGE (Vixen-style) or CG-5 dovetail rails. Alternatively, the controller can be attached to a tripod leg using the included strap.
Setup Expansion for Optimal Dew Protection
For optimal results, it is recommended to combine the controller with dew heater rings for 5", 6", 8", 9.25", 11", and 14". These fit precisely onto Schmidt plates of Schmidt-Cassegrain, EdgeHD, or RASA optics and provide year-round protection against dew formation.
The use of a dew shield is optional but can reduce energy consumption and improve heating system efficiency.
