Description
The Celestron SkyMaster Pro ED binoculars are the ideal choice for amateur astronomers and anyone observing distant targets. The SkyMaster Pro ED uses high-quality optics, coatings, components, and housing materials. With large objective lenses, BaK-4 prisms, ED glass, and fully multi-coated optics (FMC) with Celestron’s proprietary XLT coating, viewing through a SkyMaster Pro ED binocular sets a new standard for astronomy binoculars.
ED Objective Lenses
Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass virtually eliminates chromatic aberration of standard lenses. Color fringing, a common optical defect in many binoculars, is significantly reduced. The SkyMaster Pro ED delivers sharp edge-to-edge imaging with excellent color fidelity and high resolution.
Not all ED glass is the same. The high-quality ED glass used by Celestron produces noticeably brighter and sharper images compared to non-ED binoculars. The difference is especially noticeable under low light conditions such as twilight.
Coating and Prisms
All lens surfaces of the Celestron SkyMaster Pro ED are fully multi-coated and feature Celestron’s proprietary XLT coating technology. Similar to astronomical telescopes, this powerful coating reduces surface reflections and increases light transmission across a wide portion of the visible spectrum. In addition, the internal prisms are made of high-quality BaK-4 glass, further improving light transmission. The combination of fully multi-coated lenses and BaK-4 prisms allows more light from your observation target to reach your eye — resulting in brighter and more detailed images. The ED objectives further enhance these properties.
Large Objectives
The large 70 mm aperture objective lenses collect significant light for excellent performance during twilight or nighttime observation. The aperture-to-magnification ratio (exit pupil) is optimally suited for exploring the night sky and observing deep-sky objects. The Celestron SkyMaster Pro ED is also an excellent choice for observing distant terrestrial targets, especially under low light conditions.
Housing
The specially designed rubber-armored and rugged housing protects the SkyMaster Pro ED binoculars from damage without adding significant weight. Observing with the SkyMaster Pro ED is equally comfortable with or without eyeglasses thanks to adjustable eyecups and an eye relief of nearly 16 mm. Eyeglass wearers can view the entire field of view by lowering the eyecups to the lowest position, while non-eyeglass users can extend the eyecups to quickly find the correct viewing position.
Observation Options
The Celestron SkyMaster Pro ED binoculars include a tripod mount. Use a binocular tripod adapter for Porro and roof prism binoculars (not included) to mount the binoculars on any standard photo tripod or monopod for comfortable long-duration observation or even photography through the eyepiece (digiscoping).
The eyepieces of the SkyMaster Pro ED binoculars are threaded for standard 1.25" astronomical filters. The right filter can make the difference between seeing and not seeing. During daytime observation, it can reduce glare from sand, snow, or water. At night, filters can suppress stray light, improve contrast, or, in the case of light pollution filters, reduce the effect of artificial lighting. Please note that binocular use requires a pair of filters.
Share your observations with friends! Use a smartphone adapter with your SkyMaster Pro ED to capture photos and videos through the eyepiece. The smartphone adapter and tripod adapter are sold separately.
