Description

All MARUMI DHG achromatic diopters were provided with a DHG multilayer coating. Reflections are reduced to a minimum by an extremely high-quality coating. The light transmission of the MARUMI achromatic diopter is thus maximised. The incidence of light is lost through reflections. In addition, the multi-coating makes the achromat water and dirt repellent as well as particularly scratch-resistant.

Chromatic Aberration

Common single element diopters permit focusing at close camera-to-subject distances, only at the expense of image clarity. Instead, MARUMI's Diopters feature two highly corrected glass elements for edge-to-edge sharpness, thus minimizing chromatic aberration and distortion. Because of the dispersion of the optical materials, each individual element shows the so-called chromatic aberration. The refractive index increases continuously from red to blue and therefore the focal length of the lens decreases. By combining a positive and a negative element made of glasses with different refractive indexes, a reversal in the course of the cut length with the wavelength can be achieved, and the color longitudinal error of the chromatic aberration is corrected. If the two lenses are thin and are slightly spaced apart, the transverse chromatic aberration - which depends on the image height and causes disturbing color fringes at the edges of the observed objects, especially at the edge of the image field - can also be largely corrected.

Image Quality

With good close-up lenses, better images can be taken with lenses that are corrected to infinity than with extension rings or bellows. The image quality of a combination of diopter and a normal lens compared to a macro lens is comparable at high apertures, but macro lenses are superior at open apertures

The lens used is operated in the focus range near infinity, which is what it was designed for.
All the automatic functions common today are retained: Aperture control, exposure metering, autofocus, even limited image stabilization; corrections such as effective aperture are not necessary.
A diopter can be used with any camera and any lens, especially zoom lenses, as long as the filter thread fits or can be adjusted. With extension rings this depends on the optical construction.

Working Distance

The maximum working distance of a close-up lens (the distance from the lens center to the object) corresponds to its focal length and thus to the reciprocal of the refractive index. The refractive value of lenses is generally given in the unit dioptre (dpt, m-1). For a close-up lens with +2 dpt, this results in a focal length of 0.5 m; for a lens with +4 dpt, a maximum working distance of 0.25 m. In this position, the close-up lens images the object to infinity and can be projected onto the image plane with the normal lens in the focus position Infinity.

Reduced working distance also offers a wide range of shooting possibilities. Exceptionally crisp videography of small objects like jewelry or computer chips is now possible. A variety of industrial applications are also made simpler, including remote, high-magnification visual inspection of hard-to-reach objects and manufacturing processes.
