The Protective Disconnect plug protects the telescope if someone should trip over the cable: The plug separates from the cable before the telescope's electronics are damaged.

This outdoor switching power supply has been specially designed to meet the needs of amateur astronomers in northern latitudes. This 12.8 V/5 A fixed voltage power supply with reverse polarity protected protective-disconnect angle plug fits, for example, all larger Celestron mounts and offers great advantages compared to normal indoor plug-in power supplies at a slightly higher price.

Usual plug-in power supplies with a nominal voltage of 12 V are designed for use "in the living room". When used outdoors, the effective voltage drops sharply at low temperatures. The voltage can already drop to 10.5 V at -10°C - then the operation of many electrical devices becomes unreliable. Telescope electronics in particular then try to compensate for the lack of voltage through higher power consumption, and motor synchronous fluctuations occur, which are usually attributed to the electronics of the mount - although the insufficient power supply unit is the actual cause. As with the proven, smaller Baader planetarium, the Baader OTP II 19W: Outdoor Telescope Power power supply unit 19W with angle plug (#2457615, € 26,-) is designed for outdoor use.

The Outdoor-Telescope-Power 60W power pack therefore supplies a DC voltage of 12.8 volts/5 A over the entire AC voltage range from 100 to 240 V, which is standard worldwide sink so far that the electronic components or the motors of a telescope mount would be damaged.

Both Protective-Disconnect connections, the Quick-Disconnect angle plug and the coupling cable protect the telescope electronics from damage to the socket, the telescope from falling over and the power pack from cable breaks or other damage. If you accidentally step on the cable, the socket will not be torn out of the telescope by a lateral pull, but the connection will be released in a straight line at the coupling point in front of the angle plug.

The connection cables from the power supply unit to the telescope and socket are - including the power supply unit - a total of approx. 4 m long. They are longer than usual so that the power supply does not become a tripping hazard or hang in the air. Even with larger telescopes, the power pack can be placed on the floor or on the tray of the tripod or column. The case is sealed against moisture, but it is not waterproof. The plugs must not lie in the wet.

With a 5 ampere continuous load and at least 12.8 volt no-load voltage, the Baader Planetarium Outdoor Power 60W power pack is ideal for modern, high-torque mounts such as the Celestron mounts Advanced VX, CGEM (DX), CGE Pro and CPC HD Deluxe . Of course, it also fits all other mounts with a 5 ampere power requirement and 12.8 V DC socket 5.5 mm / 2.1 mm.
